  • 1 8-inch square baking dish This or a 9-inch round cake pan
  • 9-inch round cake pan This or an 8-inch square baking dish
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups
  • Spoons
  • Electric mixer (optional)
  • Oven

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour 250g
  • 1 cup cornmeal 120g
  • 1 teaspoon salt 5g
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 2g
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 2g
  • 1 cup buttermilk 240ml
  • 1 large egg 50g
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted (30g)
  • Honey Or sugar
  • Sugar Or honey

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cornmeal, salt, baking soda, and baking powder.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk, egg, and melted butter.
  • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. The batter should still be slightly lumpy.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish or cake pan.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Remove from oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Tips:
  • Use buttermilk for the best flavor and texture. If you don't have buttermilk, you can make a substitute by mixing 1 cup of milk with 1 tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes before using.
  • Don't overmix the batter, as this can lead to a dense cornbread.
  • If you want a crispy crust, bake the cornbread in a cast-iron skillet or a ceramic dish.
