This recipe makes the tastiest, creamiest, most flavorful homemade potato soup, and it is packed with lots of ingredients that you will definitely enjoy.

When the cold weather hits, you can always count on this creamy potato soup recipe to come to the rescue. This recipe gives you a savory and creamy soup that you are definitely going to enjoy.

I know a lot of people are tilting towards healthier eating but I think you sometimes need to indulge yourself in something different here as there’s a lot of cream, some cheese, and others, winks!

How to Make Creamy Potato Soup

Without wasting much time, you’re going to find the ingredients and step-by-step instructions that you need to make this wonderful potato soup recipe at home.

Ingredients for Creamy Potato Soup Recipe

  • 6 large Potatoes (about 2.5 lbs)
  • 6 strips of Bacon
  • 3 tablespoons of Butter
  • 1 medium yellow or white Onions
  • 3 large Garlic cloves 
  • ⅓ cup of all-purpose flour 
  • 2 cups of Milk
  • 1 cup of Heavy Cream
  • ⅔ cup of Sour Cream
  • 4 cups of Chicken Stock or Broth
  • 1½ teaspoon of Salt, to taste
  • ½ teaspoon of Cajun spice mix
  • Ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup of shredded Cheddar cheese 
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh Parsley

Instructions on Preparing Creamy Potato Soup Recipe

Here are the step-by-step instructions on how to prepare creamy potato soup in no time at home.

Step 1: Get a large stockpot over medium heat, then put in the bacon strips and cook till it is crisp and browned.

Step 2:  Take out the cooked bacon, and now, add the butter to the pot. Pour in the diced onions and cook on medium heat till it is tender and golden brown for about 3 minutes.

Step 3: Add in the minced garlic and cook until its savory smell pops out (about 1 minute).

Step 4: Sprinkle the flour over the ingredients in the pot, and stir until it is smooth.

Step 5:  Now, add in the diced potatoes, milk, heavy cream, chicken stock, salt, Cajun spice, and black pepper. Bring all that to a boil and cook on medium heat for about 10 minutes until the potatoes are tender.

Step 6: Reduce the heat so the soup can simmer, then take out half of the soup to a blender then puree until smooth.

Step 7: Add the pureed soup back to the pot, then add in the sour cream and stir properly.

Step 8: Allow the soup to keep simmering for another 10-15 minutes, then your creamy potato soup is ready.

Step 9: When serving, top up with the cheddar cheese and minced fresh parsley. Enjoy!

Note: If you want the soup to be very creamy, consider pureeing more than half of the soup.
