  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 tablespoons 60ml whole milk or heavy cream

Instructions

Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans, then line the bottoms with parchment paper for easy removal.

Prepare the Cake Batter:

  • In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed with an electric mixer or stand mixer until well combined.
  • Reduce the mixer speed to low and carefully pour in the boiling water. Mix until the batter is smooth and well combined.

Bake the Cake:

  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
  • Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Prepare the Chocolate Frosting:

  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy using an electric mixer or stand mixer.
  • Gradually add the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, salt, vanilla extract, and milk or heavy cream to the bowl. Beat on low speed until the ingredients are combined, then increase the speed to medium-high and beat until the frosting is smooth and creamy.

Assemble the Cake:

  • Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate or cake stand.
  • Spread a layer of chocolate frosting evenly over the top of the first cake layer.
  • Carefully place the second cake layer on top of the frosting.
  • Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining chocolate frosting, using a spatula to create a smooth finish.

Serve and Enjoy:

  • Slice the chocolate cake and serve it on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat.
