Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 lb fresh green beans washed and trimmed
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or unsalted butter
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes optional
  • 1/2 tsp salt or to taste
  • 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper or to taste
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice or zest optional, for garnish
  • 2 tbsp slivered almonds or toasted sesame seeds optional, for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Green Beans

  • Wash and trim the green beans, cutting off the ends if needed.

Heat the Skillet

  • Place a large skillet over medium heat. Add olive oil or butter and allow it to warm up until shimmering (or melted for butter).

Cook the Green Beans

  • Add the green beans to the skillet in a single layer. Stir occasionally for 4-5 minutes, letting the beans start to blister and soften slightly.

Add Garlic and Seasonings

  • Stir in the minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using). Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the garlic is fragrant and the beans are tender-crisp.

Season and Finish

  • Add salt, black pepper, and lemon juice or zest for a fresh burst of flavor. Toss well to coat the beans evenly.

Optional Garnish

  • Sprinkle with slivered almonds or toasted sesame seeds for added crunch and flavor.

Serve Warm

  • Transfer the sautéed green beans to a serving dish and serve immediately.

Notes

Some Tips To Consider

For extra tender beans, blanch them in boiling water for 2-3 minutes before sauteing. Try different flavors like soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, or Parmesan cheese for variations.
