  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Tongs
  • Large skillet or deep fryer
  • Paper towels
  • Plate
  • Small bowl for sauce
  • Measuring cups & spoons

Ingredients
  

For the Shrimp:

  • 1 lb large shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Vegetable oil for frying

For the Bang Bang Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha adjust to taste
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice

For the Tacos:

  • 8 small flour or corn tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage green or purple
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1/2 cup diced avocado optional
  • 1/4 cup crumbled queso fresco or feta cheese optional
  • Lime wedges for serving

Instructions
 

Prepare the Shrimp

  • In a bowl, soak the shrimp in buttermilk for 5-10 minutes.
  • In another bowl, mix cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika.

Fry the Shrimp

  • Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large skillet to 375°F (190°C).
  • Remove shrimp from buttermilk, letting excess drip off, then coat with the cornstarch mixture.
  • Fry shrimp in batches for 2-3 minutes until golden and crispy.
  • Remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Make the Bang Bang Sauce

  • In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, honey, and lime juice until smooth.
  • Toss the crispy shrimp in the sauce until well coated.

Assemble the Tacos

  • Warm tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave.
  • Add a layer of shredded cabbage on each tortilla.
